Demystifying Props & Incorporating Them Into Your Yoga Practice
with Alex RIEWER
Saturday, October 20 – 2:00pM - 4:00pM
“The birth of ‘props’ became a valuable gem of inspiration to do and stay longer.”
- B.K.S. Iyengar
Students often times don’t know how to use the props or are shy in a class where others may not use them. There are also many creative ways to use props in yoga postures that experienced students and teachers are not aware of. We shouldn’t shy away from using props, but instead we should embrace them for their ability to allow everyone to feel postures the right way, properly aligned, and for longer.
The workshop begins with a discussion on the history and use of props, followed by a 90 minute practice where we will use the props in several different poses. This workshop is intended for students who would like to learn how to use props in yoga poses and gain confidence incorporating props into their practice without the instruction of the teacher. Additionally, this workshop is for teachers and experienced students who are interested in learning how they can incorporate props in class in creative ways. Yoga is for everyone!
Alex is a teaching apprentice with Iyengar master yoga teacher Gabriel Halpern at the Yoga Circle.

Movability: Stretch, Push, Pull
with JESSICA CARLIN
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28 – 3:00pM - 5:00pM
This two hour workshop focuses on maintaining and increasing range of motion at all major joints. By combining methodical isometric contractions with stretching and moving in between positions with deep tensioning (intentional tissue stiffening), we stimulate the nervous system to grant us larger and controllable ranges of motion.
Students will work to assess and train joint independence which can help prevent injury and lessen pain by creating more movement at joints that aren’t moving enough while learning to move less at the joints that are moving too much. This workshops is accessible for all students and teachers.

REFLECTIONS ON OUR 2017 BOWSPRING WORKSHOP WEEKEND EXPERIENCE WITH DESI SPRINGER AND JOHN FRIEND
With our hearts, heads, and hips, full and moving back, our back bodies strong and our glutes on the rise, the Viva Prana community welcomed students from afar and Bowspring founders Desi Springer and John Friend. What did we learn? To wake up our posteriors, to spread the wings of our radiant hearts and that moving in a healthy balanced posture can not only heal our pain, but it challenges conventional wisdom on aging, teaching us to move freely and feel lighter inside and out. Come see what we mean by taking a class, Foundations of Healthy Posture will teach you the basics of the practice and are for everyone, all ages, stages, shapes and sizes. We can't wait to share our excitement about this globaly growing practice and hope that you will join us this Fall when our teachers return to Chicago.
